The Bravery

Band History

The Bravery consists of New York natives Sam Enicott, Jon Conway, Anthony Burulcich, Michael Zakarin, and Mike Hindert. The band got itsstart in the late 1990’s, when Frontman Sam Endicott and keyboardist John Conway were classmeates at Vassar College in Pouhghkeepsie, NY. The two first teamed up to form a mock ska band, Skabba The Hutt, and went on to play in numerous bands together before deciding to form The Bravery in the early 00’s. Guitarist Michale Zakarin, Bassist Mike Hindert and Drummer Anthony Burulcich joined shortly, and The Bravery was born.

The newly formed band played their first gig at the Stinger Club in Brooklyn in November of ’03, and eventually signed a recording contract with Isand Def Jam in the Southern UK, releasing their self titled debut in 2005. They have since been hailed as New York’s Official Next big Thing by the Village Voice, and 2005’s most promising act by the BBC News. In addition, The Bravery has toured with Depeche Mode, and relocated to Atlanta, GA, to record their second Album, The Sun and The Moon, which was praised by fans and critics alike

Musical Styles

The Bravery’s sound can best be described as a mixture of disco and synth rock, which is a descriptive phrase applied to the use of intentionally artificial sounds, and is produced through synthesizers, drum machines, and samplers.

The synthesizer first became popular in the 1970’s, when several progressive rock groups began using it expressly for the unique range of sounds available from the instrument. Some of these early synth rock artists included Yes, Emerson, and Lake and Palmer. Many more musicians and bands were classified as synth rock artists in the 19080’s, including Depeche Mode, Devo, Men Without Hats, New Order, A Flock of Seagulls, and others.

With artists like The Bravery slated to perform, the ECHO Project is sure to be the most talked about Atlanta music festivals of all time. Visit the ECHO Project website to purchase your tickets before they are sold out.
